Inspection

Inspections are required on farms/small holders to ensure paperwork and animal details all match. Your name is picked out at random where an inspector will come onto the farm. For us, the inspection centred round our sheep not the cows. On either field adjacent to us there are 150 sheep either side.. it is always the way.

Straightforward info required: Movement date, animal reg details and any supporting documents. Always have a good filing system!

All documentation given, an electric wand is whizzed over the sheep's id tags (in their ear) to confirm who they are. Green is good, red is bad!

To learn everything I can about farming processes this experience was important to me so I could learn from somebody who was independent and could have a overview of my work practices. It also gives you more insight as what is required about traceability. We passed our inspection for this year..
